Shopping: Golf bags and Trollies

Golf bags and trolleys come in all shapes and sizes, with a variety of prices, weights and designs.

When looking at bags and trolleys there are several things to look for. First and foremost you need to decide whether you want a trolley bag. Trolley bags are usually heavier than golf stand bags and travel bags - they are wider and more heavy-duty, but nonetheless come with a shoulder strap for carrying to and from the car.

Many golfers like to carry their bag, enjoying the game the way it was first played. It's a good way to burn a few calories and build up your stamina at the same time. If this is your preference you'll find stand bags more lightweight, with padded, non-slip shoulder straps to prevent the bag rubbing or sliding off your shoulder. One alternative to the electric golf trolley is the new range of 3 wheel push trolleys. They are more manoeuvrable and stable than 2 wheel golf trolleys, and have become extremely popular recently.

Finally, you need to decide exactly what you want to carry - there are huge variations in capacity between different bags, with options including extra space for more clubs, balls, tees and extra clothing, gloves and even an umbrella. Whatever kind you choose, it's important that your clubs don't bash around between dividers as the graphite shafts clubs can easily become scratched and damaged. Be sure your bag has soft PVC or leather dividers to prevent this.
